Aledo's Housing
Aledo is a small city in eastern Parker County served by Aledo ISD. The census counted 620 people in 1970, 1,726 in 2000, 2,716 in 2010 and 4,858 in 2020. Within the city limits the ACS counts about 1,800 housing units. 76 percent of them were built in 2000 or later. Half were built in 2010 or later. About one house in eight predates 1990.
The typical Aledo house is a two-story brick-and-stone production home on a slab. It has an open living area, a kitchen island, a game room upstairs and a three-car garage. Common jobs on a 10-to-20-year-old house are swapping builder-grade cabinets and counters for better ones, pulling carpet for plank, rebuilding a master bath with a tiled shower, and converting a garage bay for an office or a parent moving in.
Where the Work Is
Confirmed Aledo neighborhoods and streets include Brook Hollow, the homes along Point Vista Drive, Bailey Ranch Road and Rolling Hills Drive, and the blocks around Bearcat Stadium and the Aledo ISD campuses. A lot of housing with an Aledo mailing address sits outside the city limits in unincorporated Parker County. The city's permit page says to confirm jurisdiction before applying. An Aledo address does not mean the property is inside the city. That matters for permits, covered below, and for septic systems on acreage lots.
The Parker County Chamber of Commerce covers Aledo and the rest of eastern Parker County.
Kitchens and Bathrooms
A kitchen remodel in a 2005 to 2015 Aledo house rarely moves walls. It replaces the raised bar with a flat island, swaps laminate or builder granite for quartz, runs a full-height tile backsplash, adds a pot filler and better lighting, and often paints or replaces the cabinets. Walk-in pantries get built-in shelving.
Bathroom remodels follow the same pattern. The fiberglass garden tub and small shower come out. A single large tiled shower with a bench and linear drain goes in. Double vanities get taller cabinets and quartz tops. The upstairs kids' bath usually gets new tile, a new tub surround and a better fan.
Permits in Aledo and the County
Inside the city limits, the City of Aledo Development Services department handles permits, plan checks and inspections through the GovWell online portal. Outside the limits the property falls under Parker County, which does not issue building permits for houses. The county's Permitting Department regulates septic systems. An addition or garage conversion that adds a bathroom on a septic lot goes through the county for the septic side even though no building permit applies.
Additions, Floors and Exteriors
Lots in Aledo run larger than in the Fort Worth suburbs. A single-story addition off the back for a bedroom suite, a sunroom or a bigger living area is common. A covered patio with an outdoor kitchen is also common. On acreage outside town the request is often a detached workshop or a new custom house on the land.
Flooring is almost all slab work: carpet out, luxury vinyl plank or wood-look tile in, with the slab flattened first. Interior and exterior painting rounds out most jobs. Exterior work is usually new windows, a new front door or a stone and cedar update to a plain brick front.
